Pompeii
Pompeii is a ruined and
partially buried Roman town-city
near modern Naples in the
Italian region of Campania, in
the territory of the comune of
Pompei. Along with Herculaneum,
its sister city, Pompeii was
destroyed, and completely
buried, during a long
catastrophic eruption of the
volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning
two days in 79 AD.
Sorrento
Sorrento stands on high cliffs
of tuff, which were formed from
water erosion, giving them their
present aspect.
The arrangement of the modern
streets preserves that of the
ancient town, and the
disposition of the walled paths
which divide the plain to the
east seems to date in like
manner from Roman times.
Positano
The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera
Amalfitana in Italian, is a
stretch of coastline on the
southern side of the Sorrentine
Peninsula of Italy (Province of
Salerno), extending from
Positano in the west to Vietri
sul Mare in the east. A
UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
